The way Physical Shield actually works can be confusing. This power allows you to take hits, without depleting your multiplier. Now, as you progress through the quest you will enter Hobbe Cave, which has massive, massive amounts of Hobbes (as the name would imply.) This is when you initiate your "Physical Shield" power up. I also advise on stocking up on Will Potions. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PHYSICAL SHIELD SPELL! VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE! I had level 2, but I'm sure level 1 will work as well.
(by far the easiest first one to obtain) About a quarter of the way through the game you will be given the side quest "Hobbe Cave." Once you are renown enough, start the side quest. Potions in the game: - Ages of the Will: Twinblade's camp, in a barrel - Ages of Might: Bowerstone South, in a cabinet in a house. (Later on in the game, if you use the physical shield technique, you can get 20x no problem! The highest I ever got was 60x! If you're patient, do this in the arena, or the graveyards. This is by far the easiest way to obtain this achievement, early on in the game.
